A few months ago we were asked by GFSmith to design a Wallpaper* cover to celebrate the magazine's 15th anniversary. See above for our contribution. More about the project below...

Wallpaper* has collaborated with GFSmith on a cover project that looks to celebrate the magazine's 15th anniversary. 15 designers or brands were approached to each create a special cover design, to be printed on Colorplan paper stock. Collaborators include Build, It's Nice That, James Joyce, MadeThought, Nike, and Spin...
"Wallpaper* asked us to commission 15 designers to each produce a 'celebrity' bespoke cover around the concept of Wallpaper* Famous for 15 years'," explains GFSmith's James Groves.

"In the true sense of bespoke, using digital printing by FE Burman, each cover design was printed on to the stock of the designer's choosing from our Colorplan range," continues Groves. "FE Burman pushed the printing by using many different processes including multiple passes of white ink. The results show how choice of paper plays an integral part of the design process."

It's with great pleasure that we can show you the official film poster for the new Gary Hustwit documentary film 'Urbanized'.
having worked with Gary on his previous film 'Objectified' (Michael also featured in his first documentary film 'Helvetica') we are really happy to be working on the identity and all print collateral for this latest installment.
The poster is double-sided. Why two sides? 1) You get to you choose which side you want to display, and 2) If they’re randomly alternated when multiple copies are posted, they create sort of a “city skyline” of their own, like such—

"The HAND.WRITTEN.LETTER.PROJECT was after a conversation about how personal a letter can be: a fact that is currently drowning in a tide of depersonalisation, with junk mail and automated correspondence.
There is always something nice about receiving a letter, especially these days when email, text, status updates, and tweets, dominate our communication, leaving many to lose sight of the things that have been around for a while (like
ink and paper). However, it is important that they do not".

Identity design for T&Cake, a new Yorkshire based modern café. Consisting of stationery, packaging, website (content managed by T&Cake), signage and interior design input. Run by established restauranteurs Tracy & Stephen Jackson (previous owners of The Weavers Shed, former Yorkshire Restaurant of the Year) in the small northern town of Almondbury. If you are in the area check it out, the food on the menu looks amazing!

To celebrate Wim Crouwel at the Design Museum Spin commissioned some of their favourite graphic design studios to create a Crouwel inspired poster using the grid structure he developed for his series for the Stedelijk Museum. We were honoured to be one of the studios invited and are rather pleased with the end result. The print is for sale and is available exclusively from Unit Editions here, and the Design Museum Shop here.

Last night saw the launch of the new Nokia typeface 'Pure' created by Dalton Maag. To celebrate Nokia invited 13 design studios and illustrators to design a poster using the new typeface. We were honoured to be one of the invited studios. Each poster is a ltd-edition of 20 only and all the proceeds are to be donated to the British Dyslexia Association. All the posters are available to buy, priced at £50. If you are interested in buying ours, or any of the other posters contact Design Studio via this email. Our design focuses around an original poem by our very own Nicky Place and features a beautiful mirrored foil-blocked QR-code. The code is linked to an animated version of the full poem entitled 'Pure Imagination'.

As part of an ongoing project we are doing with Nokia we also produced a short film called 'PureReversal'. From digital to analogue we commissioned a woodblock version of the typeface, highlighting the craft of Matt McKenzie of the Paekakariki Press. Filmed on location at his workshop in Walthamstow, London. A ltd-edition print was produced and printed on his original 1959 Heidleberg KS Cylinder 38 x 52 Press.
