"The images in
Enda O’Donoghue’s paintings all come from the Internet. They are all other people’s images, digitally found images. Searching through popular online social networks and blogs on an ongoing basis, he compulsively collects and catalogues photographs that he finds. The photos which he works with are most often the throw-away shots which otherwise gather digital dust buried away on hard-drives, camera chips, mobile phones or uploaded and then lost or forgotten someplace on the Web. With each image he paints he is meticulous about tracing the ownership and requesting permission, partly as a way of dealing with the anonymous nature of the Internet and also a reaction to the issues surrounding online privacy and copyright".

On a recent trip to Paris I went to the
Pompidou centre to see what was on, I saw the
Lucien Freud show (which I really enjoyed) but on the floor below in a much smaller space was a show by an Icelandic artist called '
Erro' which completely blew me away. I bought the book and then searched the internet for further info, not much is to be found but if you do get the chance, go see his show. Amazing work.

Anna Kipervaser – The bodies of work I am currently developing were sparked by cultural issues I became intrigued by when traveling in the Middle East in 2007. Most of these paintings begin by my using a jigsaw to cut out the shaped wood panel I will need. Formal decisions are based on the appeal of limiting my paintings to one subject as my training connects with traditions of portraiture and iconography.
-
The focus of this work is to examine collective and individual identity. I am creating visually compelling images that hope to challenge preconceived notions about the Middle East and its people in unconventional ways.
