One trophy to rule them all…

It began with the carving of the Yellow Pencils. Three were given to the Creative Directors; immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven, to the Senior Designers, great thinkers and craftsmen of the fixed-gear bikes. And nine, nine pencils were gifted to the race of account managers, who above all else desire power. For within these pencils was bound the strength and the will to govern over each race.
But they were all of them deceived, for a new trophy was made. In the land of Walthamstow, in the fires of Forest Road, BV Trophies, E17 forged in secret, a master trophy (hand engraved by robots), to control all others. And into this trophy they poured all their creativity, their ideas and their will to dominate all design. One trophy to rule them all. One by one, the free peoples of The Earth fell to the power of the trophy.
But there were some who resisted. A last alliance of Designers and Creative directors marched against the armies of unoriginality, and on the very slopes of Forest Road, they fought for the freedom of East-London. Victory was near, but the power of the trophy could not be undone. It was in this moment, when all hope had faded, that Build, son of the king, took up his father's Rotring. And the enemy of the free peoples of Earth, was defeated. The trophy passed to Build, who had this one chance to destroy evil forever... but the hearts of Men are easily corrupted.
And the trophy of power has a will of its own. It betrayed Build, to his death. And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth. And for a year, the trophy passed out of all knowledge. Until, when chance came, the trophy ensnared another bearer. The trophy came to the victor, who took it deep into the tunnels under Covent Garden tube, and there it consumed him. The trophy gave to the victor an unnatural long life.
For a year it freed his mind; and in the glow of the victor's studio, it waited. Darkness crept back into the studios of the world. Rumour grew of a shadow in the East, whispers of a nameless fear, and the Trophy of Power perceived. Its time had now come.
But then something happened that the trophy did not intend. It was picked up by the most unlikely studio imaginable. An as yet unnamed studio. For the time will soon come when creatives will shape the fortunes of all...

Wordplay competition—

Nokia-Wordplay 13 poster set.

Nokia-Wordplay postcard pack.
We recently completed a great project for Nokia called 'Wordplay'.
Wordplay explores language and the written word– phrases that are familiar, funny, silly and thoughtful–things. Thirteen localised versions of the Dalton Maag designed Nokia Pure font that may inspire you to learn a new language, or to discover places, both near and far.
Info about the project can be found on our site here.
Watch the Wordplay animation here.
We've teamed up with Nokia to give you the opportunity to win some some beautiful pieces of print.
For your chance to win one of 20 Poster sets + Postcard packs all you have to do is answer this simple question!
What is the name given to a sentence that uses every letter of the alphabet at least once?
Is it:
A: Wigwam
B: Pangram
C: Claude Van-Damme
Send your answer to: blog (at) wearebuild (dot) com
Winning entries will be drawn and notified on Thursday, the 22nd of March, 2012.
Good luck!

Well done to everyone- keep a lookout for your postman in the next few days! Also keep your eyes open for a new competition soon...

To celebrate the launch of our all-new website we are giving away 10 lovely  'Anatomy Of A Holding Page' posters.

We found these beauties in our archive and being an ‘analogue depiction’ of our website from 2004 they seemed perfect to celebrate the launch of the new site. Designed & printed for Australian design magazine Refill, they were originally folded to fit inside the magazine- we have pristine, unfolded specimens, in all their fluorescent splendour.
To win one, answer this simple question (clue- you can find the answer on our website!):

What kind of cats are Brockmann & Betty?

Send your answer to [email protected]- please put  ‘Anatomy Competition!’ in the subject line. Don't forget to send your name, and shipping address. The first 10 out of the proverbial hat at noon on Friday 30th July will win.

If you are unlucky enough not to win or you live in ‘the rest of the world’ you may still be able to buy one after the competition is closed- these will go on sale on Monday 2nd August, but we do have very limited stocks so they probably won’t be around for long.
Some ‘Small Print’-
- We are sorry but this competition is only open to addresses in UK, Ireland and mainland Europe.
- If you live somewhere in ‘the rest of the world’, you can enter but you must supply a shipping address in the UK, Ireland or mainland Europe.
- We will publish winners names & town of residence online.
- We reserve the right to remove duplicate entries if we get silly amounts from one person.
